An Online Microelectronics Device Characterization Laboratory with a Circuit-like User Interface
نویسنده
چکیده
We have developed and deployed a new graphical user interface for an online microelectronics characterization laboratory that we call the MIT Microelectronics WebLab (or "WebLab" for short). WebLab allows the characterization of transistors and other microelectronic devices in real time through the Internet. The new graphical interface consists of a Java applet that uses the circuit language of electrical engineering to specify the experiment to be performed. The latest release of WebLab features a new remote management system designed to allow the efficient deployment of the system in multiple subjects with large numbers of students. Since its release in mid 2002, this version of WebLab has been used by nearly 700 students to complete assignments for credit in six different subjects. Educational Experiments with an Online Microelectronics Characterization Laboratory
1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rm. 39-415, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA, [email protected]. Abstract We have developed and deployed an online microelectronics characterization laboratory that allows the characterization of transistors and other microelectronic devices in real time through the internet. The architecture of this system was devised to accomplish two goals: 1) the delivery of a...
متن کاملEvaluation Tools for a Microelectronics Remote Laboratory
Remote laboratories have become increasingly popular in engineering education, gradually replacing traditional hands-on labs. However, in the specialized field of microelectronics fabrication the move towards remote labs has been slow. This is due to the nature of the fabrication facilities, the cost and the extra challenges involved in such transformation. There has been wide debate regarding ...
متن کاملRemote Microelectronics Fabrication Laboratory MEFLab
Over the last decade, there has been a move towards using remote laboratories in engineering education. The majority of these laboratories are static, involving limited user-controlled mechanical movements. The University of South Australia has developed such a laboratory, called NetLab that has been successfully utilized for teaching both on-campus and transnational programs in electrical and ...
متن کاملMIT Device Simulation Weblab: An Online Simulator For Microelectronics Education
The WeblabSim system uses a three-tier design based on the iLab Shared Architecture (Figure 1). It consists of a client applet that lets users configure simulations, a laboratory server that runs them, and a generic service broker that mediates between the two through SOAP-based web services. We have implemented a graphical Java client applet, based on the client used by the MIT Microelectronic...
متن کاملThe MIT Microelectronics WebLab: a Web-Enabled Remote Laboratory for Microelectronic Device Characterization
We have developed a web-enabled remote laboratory (WebLab) for microelectronic device characterization. This system allows remote clients to communicate with a server and carry out real-time measurements on transistors and other microelectronics devices. On the client side, a standard Java-enabled web browser and an Internet connection is all is required to access the instrumentation. A queuing...
